What to Do When Data Annotation Verification Fails

A failed verification can result from an unreadable document, expired ID, profile mismatch, unsupported document, poor selfie capture, phone problem, unsupported location or an automated check requiring manual review. Do not assume the cause; record the exact message.

Troubleshooting sequence

1. Confirm you are eligible in your real working location.
2. Compare legal name, birth date and address across profile, ID and payout account.
3. Check that the document is valid, unexpired and supported.
4. Retake images in bright, even light with all edges visible and no glare.
5. Use the recommended browser and a stable connection; disable cosmetic camera filters.
6. Retry only as instructed. Repeated attempts can complicate automated reviews.
7. Contact official support with the error, timestamp, browser/device and a concise explanation.

If the problem follows a legitimate name change, relocation or document renewal, say so and ask what evidence is accepted. Outlier tells contributors who relocate to update their primary location and warns that new government ID may be required. Handshake says verification can cover identity, qualifications and location and may be repeated periodically.

Never use a workaround seller

Do not edit an ID, borrow a selfie, buy a phone number, create a second account, mask location or grant remote computer access. Besides breaking platform rules, this exposes your identity and earnings to another person.

Keep screenshots of errors but redact ID numbers in ordinary support messages unless the secure official process asks for the full document.
