1. Define who is a good fit

Pick a buyer type, recurring problem, evidence you can show, project size you can handle and a channel where the buyer can be reached. Avoid describing the target as 'any business.'
Build an ideal-client profile from observable traits: business model, common work trigger, likely decision-maker and signs that the need is real.
Keep a no-fit list too: unpaid speculative work, unclear authority, requests to evade platform rules, sensitive data without approved controls, or a scope that cannot be priced responsibly.

2. Create an offer worth replying to

Translate tasks into outputs without promising results outside your control. Say 'deliver six edited clips with checked captions' rather than 'make your videos go viral.'
Package a diagnostic, a first project and a repeatable monthly service. Name inputs, outputs, schedule, review rounds and exclusions in each package.
Video editing example: one paid test edit from client-owned footage; a 6-clip batch from one recording; a monthly 20-clip workflow with agreed source limits, approval windows and handoff formats.

3. Research and qualify prospects

Use public business information carefully. Record the source and date, collect only details needed to contact the decision-maker, and stop when the data source or outreach route is not appropriate.
A qualified lead has a plausible need, relevant contact route, service fit, timing signal and safe way to discuss work.
Move each lead through identified, researched, contacted, replied, call, proposal, won, lost or pause. The workbook flags overdue follow-ups from dates; it does not reward large unqualified lists.

4. Write proposals around the buyer's problem

Open with one detail from the brief, reflect the intended outcome, show the closest relevant proof, ask key missing questions and propose a bounded next step.
Avoid generic openings, false claims, fake metrics, unearned testimonials and portfolio links that require the buyer to request access.
The sample proposal shows the original weak draft, tailored rewrite and annotation explaining what changed.

5. Quote the work and protect scope

Build a quote from estimated work hours, direct costs, verified platform or payment fees, risk allowance and the minimum return you require. The buyer-facing offer can still be one clear fixed amount.
State what is included and excluded, how many review rounds, how the deadline depends on client inputs and how additional work is approved.
The example uses fictional KSh inputs to explain the calculation. It is not a recommended market rate. Replace inputs with your own time estimate, costs and buyer evidence.

6. Run a useful discovery conversation

Ask what should change, how the work is assessed, what has been tried, which materials are approved, who signs off and what happens if a dependency is late.
End with a written recap: goal, scope, exclusions, dates, fee, payment steps, access and next owner. Do not begin on an unclear verbal promise.
Use a polite no-fit response when work is unsafe, outside your skills or impossible to scope.

7. Improve the pipeline from evidence

Review contacts, replies, qualified calls, proposals and decisions separately. A response rate alone cannot show whether leads were suitable or work was profitable.
When replies are low, review fit and first lines. When calls do not become proposals, review qualification and clarity. When proposals stall, make the next decision and date explicit.
The six-week sprint uses a manageable cadence, then adjusts based on what the freelancer learns. It never prescribes a mass-message quota.
