1. Choose the right kind of growth

More revenue is not the only growth target. Identify whether the constraint is lead quality, delivery capacity, repeat work, price discipline, cash timing, or quality control.
Map current work by buyer, service, hours, direct costs, revision load, payment timing, repeat potential and risk. Separate booked revenue from cash received.
Choose one improvement for 90 days and define an observable measure: fewer overdue receivables, lower rework hours, more repeat briefs or a healthier capacity buffer.

2. Package repeatable services

Define a core package that is predictable to deliver and one adjacent upgrade. Make each clear about inputs, outputs, timing, review rounds, access and exclusions.
Design a retainer around recurring work the client actually needs. Do not sell unused hours or guarantee leads, views, sales or outcomes outside your control.
Example: a monthly content-operations retainer may include a planning call, a set number of approved edits, caption checks, version log and report. The client supplies rights-cleared footage and one approver.

3. Onboard with control

Collect only the access needed, use client-approved accounts, define ownership and revoke access at the end. Record where approved files live and who makes decisions.
Confirm goals, deliverables, exclusions, deadlines, dependencies, review windows, escalation route and payment schedule in writing at kickoff.
The pack includes intake, kickoff, access, approver and decision templates. Terms with legal effect should be reviewed for the freelancer's circumstances.

4. Deliver consistently and reduce rework

Use repeatable stages: request, clarify, plan, produce, self-check, client review, revise, approve and archive.
Set a definition of done for each output. A short-form video check can include ratio, caption correction, rights check, safe margin, naming, export review and delivery link.
Record missing inputs, scope changes, blocked decisions and risks. Document decisions once instead of relying on memory across chats.

5. Manage capacity, time and profitability

Estimate working hours after administration, sales, learning, leave and buffer. Do not sell every calendar hour as deliverable capacity.
Compare project value with time, direct cost, payment fees and rework. Investigate estimates that consistently miss rather than hiding unpaid extra work.
The workbook separates booked and collected amounts, calculates effective rate from editable inputs and flags when a retainer uses more time than planned.

6. Retain clients and plan renewals

Use a monthly review to show completed outputs, decisions needed, changes, risks and next priorities. Do not report activity as business impact.
Start renewal conversations before the final week. Ask what is working, what changed, what should stop, what should continue and which approver is needed.
Renew when work remains useful, scope fits, delivery is healthy and payment history is acceptable.

7. Grow without breaking trust

Consider raising price, narrowing service, automating a low-risk step or delegating after documenting quality controls and reviewing confidentiality, access and client approval.
For subcontracted work, agree who handles data, client communication, rights, review and correction. Do not pass files to third parties or AI tools without authorization.
The 90-day plan asks what evidence would justify the next step, what could go wrong and what stop condition keeps the risk manageable.

May delivery review and June decision

Completed: 14 of 16 planned clips, with caption checks and version records for every approved file. Two clips await replacement footage because source audio was incomplete. The client approved new files on 28 May; both will join June's first delivery batch. Time used was 31.5 hours against a 28-hour plan, mainly because the first two briefs changed after editing began. For June, I recommend keeping the 16-clip ceiling, adding a two-day approval window and confirming source completeness before the edit queue starts. No claim is made about views or sales.
