"Remote" does not automatically mean worldwide. Employers may limit hiring because of payroll, tax, time zones, client contracts, data access, sanctions screening or the countries supported by an employer-of-record service.
| Check | Best evidence | Weak evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Vacancy exists | Employer's official careers page | Forwarded screenshot |
| Kenya is eligible | Current vacancy location or written HR confirmation | An old social-media comment |
| Recruiter is genuine | Company-domain email and verifiable staff profile | Messaging-only account |
| Payment is workable | Written contract or official platform payment page | "We pay everyone" |
| Work is permitted | Official platform terms and client policy | Advice to use a proxy |
Search the company name plus the exact role, but return to the official domain before submitting identity information. Check whether the role says worldwide, EMEA, Africa, specific countries or a required working overlap.
Do not misstate your location. Do not use another person's account, a purchased profile, a rented computer or a proxy to bypass eligibility. Those tactics expose you to suspension, withheld payment, identity theft and contract risk.
Record the date checked, official URL, permitted location, role type, hours, payment route, application status and next review date. Platform and employer rules change, so a dated ledger is safer than a permanent list of "sites that work."
Use the remote-work readiness hub to score your setup and download the opportunity-screening checklist.
