Handshake AI Kenya: Read This Before You Apply

The official Handshake AI program is not a normal open Kenyan gig platform. Its June 2026 guidance says the standard route requires a participant to be a US person with an SSN or ITIN and supported US work authorization. Non-US persons are eligible only by invitation. A separate location policy says project work must ordinarily be completed within the United States and associated territories unless the required approval applies.

Therefore, a Kenyan resident without an official international invitation should not pay anyone for “activation,” a US number, an account or verification assistance. Do not confuse the official Handshake career platform and Fellowship with a local website or social-media page using a similar name.

How to check an invitation

Start from Handshake's official program page or Help Center, not a WhatsApp link. Handshake says it does not send Handshake AI offers by SMS or WhatsApp. Its safety guide identifies Persona for identity verification, TaxBandits for tax information and Stripe for payment processing. Confirm unexpected messages with the official Fellow Experience team before submitting sensitive information.

An authentic invitation does not override work authorization. Handshake says eligible US participants need an SSN or ITIN, while international fellows are currently invitation-only. Never claim a status you do not hold.

What genuine onboarding looks like

Applicants create or use a Handshake account, complete a profile and resume, confirm email, verify identity when prompted and complete project-specific onboarding. Work is flexible and project-based; assignment depends on background and demand. Pay and any bonus terms should be visible before joining a project.

If you are not eligible, treat that as a routing decision, not a problem to bypass. Focus on platforms and vacancies that accept your actual country and credentials.
